Khao Lak is filled with natural beauty, above and under the sea. From the stunning mountains to the hospitable locals, Khao Lak offers all its visitors nothing short of an excellent vacation. That said, if you are visiting this place, you might be considering heading to Lam Ru National Park. After all, it is a stunning park filled with beaches and the famous Ton Chong Waterfall.
If you’ve never been there before, here’s what you need to keep in mind to make the most out of your visit:
1. Getting to Lam Ru National Park
There are a few ways to get to Lam Ru National Park.
If you have plenty of time, a public minivan can get you to the national park. While it won’t drop you off directly at the park itself, it will pass by, so you can easily arrange to make a quick stop to drop you off. If you want a shorter trip, a private taxi is the way to go. These transportation services can be arranged with the reception of the hotel or hostel you’re staying at.
2. Lam Ru National Park’s Visitor Area
Getting to Lam Ru National Park, you’ll be dropped off at its visitor’s area. There, facilities consist of bungalows, camping areas, toilets, shower rooms, and a restaurant. Do note that the food this restaurant serves can get quite expensive.
3. Staying in Lam Ru National Park Overnight
If you’re planning to pitch a tent here for the night, you either can bring your own or rent one. However, note that there is a limited number of tents available to rent. You’ll only be able to rent tents on the spot, and these tents will only be able to accommodate at most 3 people.
If you want to stay somewhere a little more boutique, or perhaps you don’t want to take your chances, bungalows are available for booking. For this, you can book well in advance.
4. Places of Interested in Lam Ru National Park
Now that you’re in the park, you should know where to go.
First things first, there’s a sandy beach nearby, aptly named small sandy beach. While it is quite small, it is still a relaxing and wonderful place to visit. Getting to the beach is easy, and you can get to it by going for a kilometer-long hike from the visitor’s area.
If you want to go somewhere a little bigger (and if you want to go to a place where you can pitch your tent), head for Khao Lak Beach. The whole beach is part of the park, and there’s a small area of the park that’s a little rocky. Fortunately, you don’t have to travel far from your tent to reach the real Khao Lak Beach.
Another attraction you can find here, as we mentioned in the introduction, would be Ton Chong Fa Waterfall. It is the most famous waterfall inside the park and is around twelve kilometers away from the visitor center. Because of the distance, we highly recommend that you rent a vehicle to get to the waterfall.
Conclusion
Lam Ru National Park is a must-visit place if you ever decide to come to Khao Lak. Thanks to its stunning natural beauty, it’s made a name for itself as a nature-lovers paradise. From waterfalls to beaches, the park has it all to get you immersed into what makes Khao Lak genuinely magical.
